Millicom Group CEO Mauricio Ramos visits Zantel offices in Zanzibar

The Millicom Group Chief Executive Officer Mauricio Ramos visited Tanzania and got an opportunity to a courtesy call to the President of Zanzibar His Excellency Dr. Ali Mohammed Shein.

Speaking at the State House in Zanzibar, His Excellency Dr. Ali Mohammed Shein congratulated Zantel and Millicom Group for the good job they have done in contributing to the growth of Zanzibar economy by practicing good corporate citizenship.

“I congratulate Zantel for your telecommunication services in and out of the country which is one way of advertising Zanzibar through communication and hence contribute to the country’s economy.” said Dr. Shein.

He took the opportunity to remind the Group CEO and his delegation that Zantel need to work hard to provide the best products and services to survive the competition from many telecommunication service providers which are competing in the same market.

Responding to the President’s remarks, Mauricio Ramos ensured the President that Zantel will continue to support the government development initiatives and support connecting the country with the digital world by making sure The Zantel 4G infrastructure is enhanced to support and make communication easy.

“I thank the Government of Zanzibar for the good cooperation and support it gives to Zantel and we promise to enhance the quality of our services to the Zanzibari community and contribute to the country’s economy” he added.

Other Millicom Group and Zantel Officials who visited the Zanzibar State House were the Zantel Board Chairperson Rachel Samren, Zantel CEO Bennoit Janin and the Head of Zantel in Zanzibar Mohammed Hamis Mussa.

The Group CEO got a chance to meet Zantel staff in the Isles and Dar and had an opportunity to talk to them assuring staff a bright future ahead.

Mauricio thanked the staff for the hard work and great team work between the two operating areas and emphasized in the Zantel commitment to retain the leadership position in Zanzibar by investing in innovation and customer service.

“Zantel is fast becoming a very data-focused business and the first operator to launch 4G technology in Zanzibar as well as doubling network coverage on the mainland, the innovation will only become beneficial by driving the increase of smartphone penetration and delivering innovative data offers for customers” said Mauricio.

He added that staff commitment to improving customer service is something which needs expansion in other areas across the business. Being very focused on deeply understanding our market and the needs of our customers leads to innovations such as your Islamic MFS products.
