ZANTEL RENAMES ITS MOBILE INTERNET SERVICES
Dar es Salaam, February 15, 2012
Zantel, a subsidiary of Etisalat and the most trusted name in mobile broadband and Internet services in Tanzania has announced the change of name of its prepaid internet services to ezyNet maintaining its attributes of being fast, reliable, convenient and affordable. With ezyNet a Zantel customer will enjoy various bundle offers that have additional bandwidth and will be able to subscribe to a bundle as many times as they would wish.
In addition to this they have also introduced two new offers for its modems to suit every customer’s preference and pocket. On the first offer the modems come already bundled; TSH 30,000 modem bundled with 250MB, TSH 49,000 modem bundled with 2500MB and TSH 80,000 modem bundled with 4000MB. On the second offer the modems come with free CDMA airtime; TSH 30,000 modem comes with TSH 3,000 airtime, TSH 49,000 modem comes with TSH 30,000 airtime and TSH 80,000 modem comes with TSH 70,000 airtime.

In September 2011, Etisalat`s Group Chief Commercial Officer and Chairman of Zantel Essa Al Haddad, launched a joint program between Etisalat Group, Qualcomm and D-Tree International to bring a new mobile health Initiative to Tanzania. Etisalat and D-tree International, the program uses mobile technology to support front line health practitioners to provide high quality counselling, preventive care and treatment to women and children. Etisalat and Qualcomm from their parts provide connectivity, handsets and technology to the programs while D-tree International, in conjunction with the Ministry of Health of Zanzibar and various leading international non-governmental organizations deploy the service. The program is the first mhealth initiative in Tanzania that combines companies’ expertise in developing mHealth applications with focus areas including the treatment of children, maternal health and chronic diseases.
Through this innovative venture, Etisalat has been shortlisted under the Best Mobile Health Innovation category at the 2012 GSMA's Best Mobile Health Innovation Awards slated to take place during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on February 28, 2012.

ZANTEL MAKES NEW APPOINTMENTS

Zantel, part of Etisalat Group and the most innovative mobile company in Tanzania in its endeavor to grow local talent has made 2 new appointments as it realigns its Commercial department. The new appointees are Ahmed Seif who is now the Commercial Director/Project Management Office and Sarah Mwigune who becomes the Customer Experience Director. The appointments were effective from January 15, 2012.
Ahmed Mokhles, Zantel Chief Commercial Officer commenting on the appointments said that they are in line with company strategy to realign the commercial department to be headed by qualified and experienced personnel who will be key in growing the business. “Their roles are quite crucial to the business and we are proud that local Tanzanians are taking up the lead in the company to ensure we keep growing not only in terms of business but in nurturing local talents as well.” said Mr. Mokhles.
Ahmed Seif holds a Bsc in Engineering from the University of Dar es Salaam. He will be dealing with Projects in line with Zantel Commercial strategy in Tanzania. Among the projects which Ahmed was involved in is the East African submarine cable system (EASSy), Epiq Nation, Consortium Fibre Project in Tanzania, Seychelles Submarine Cable system, Zantel Network Rollout and various Zantel commercial products in the market. With a background in technology Ahmed will add value to the commercial team by bring more technological innovation in the Tanzanian Market.
As the new Director of Customer Experience Sarah Mwigune is in responsible for ensuring Zantel customers are satisfied with our services as well as champion marketing initiatives. Prior to her appointment she was in charge of Zantel Retention team a section of customer experience department. She has over 11 years work experience on customer service.
ZANTEL RE-LAUNCHES ITS MOBILE MONEY SERVICES

Zantel, a subsidiary of Etisalat today re-launched its Mobile Money Service Zpesa. The new service has been upgraded and spiced up with a Micro Insurance option catering for the mass market. The new offering dubbed ‘Ezy Pesa is a revolutionary enhancement to Zantel’s freshly re-launched Mobile Finance Service.
EZY Pesa is upgraded and improved to offer competitive rates to its consumers and agents. In addition to sending, receive money, purchasing air time, EZY Pesa users will now be able to pay their utility bills and other services to subscribed business and companies. Prior to his appointment he was in charge of Zantel’s Own Channel Manager responsible for shops and Customer Care Centres. He holds an MBA venturing in Marketing.
ZANTEL INTRODUCES CHAMPIONS PROGRAM

EASY CABLE UNDERGOING MASSIVE CAPACITY UPGRADE

Zantel as a member of consortium with Tigo and Airtel signed an MOA with Zantel, a shareholder of the EASSy cable project last week hosted a meeting in Zanzibar for all EASSy Investment parties Procurement Group to decide the procurement process of EASSy first system upgrade. The group agreed to award the upgrade project to Alcatel-Lucent Submarine Networks France which is the same company that originally laid the cable.
EASSy is the first cable system to be upgraded in a short time as it was commissioned only in August 2010 and due to high demand for the EASSy cable and at the end of this upgrade 160gpbs capacity will added on to the fiber.
"EASSy has the final equipped capacity of 1.4 Tbps. The initial capacity configuration was 30 Gbps and so far 80 % has already been utilized in one year span due to huge demand .Now the system is getting upgraded into another 160Gbps." Explained Zantel Fiber Manager Santhosh Kumar. The upgrade has already started and is expected to be complete by February 2012 whereby EASSy will become the biggest capacity provider in Tanzania.

ZANTEL, AIRTEL & TIGO WITH GOVERNMENT FOR JOINT FIBER NETWORK

Zantel as a member of consortium with Tigo and Airtel signed an MOA with government in which the 3 companies will jointly develop a fiber network throughout the country. This joint venture is a first in Tanzania that will see fiber technology spread throughout the country. Each consortium member will contribute equally towards the project which has already started as can been seen with ongoing digging alongside the roads including right in front of Zantel Park.

Working closely with the Government of Zanzibar, Etisalat and D-tree International will use mobile technology to support front line health practitioners to provide high quality counseling, preventive care and treatment to women and children. Etisalat and Qualcomm from their parts will provide connectivity, handsets and technology to the programs. D-tree International, in conjunction with the Ministry of Health of Zanzibar and various leading international non-governmental organizations, will deploy the service.
Commenting on this initiative Al Haddad said: - “This partnership is part of a broader collaboration, which combines companies’ expertise in developing mHealth decision support applications integrated with sustainable technological backbone for scalable mobile solutions. ZANTEL DONATES LCD SCREENS FOR ZANZIBAR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

On Friday 12th August Zantel had the privilege of presenting to the Zanzibar Minister of Communication and Infrastructure Hon. Hamad Masoud Hamad LCD screens that will be placed at Zanzibar International Airport. The 2 LCD 46 inch screens will be placed at the VIP Lounge and Departure Lounge and is part of Zantel’s contribution towards the modernization and digitization project of the Zanzibar International Airport.
The screens were presented to the Minister by our Government Relations Manager Charles Jutta and also in attendance was Mr. Abdulla H. Kombo, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Communication and Infrastructure who is also a Zantel board member.
In his speech Minister Hamad thanked Zantel for their support and for heeding to his request for screens to be placed at the Zanzibar airport.

ZANTEL LAUNCHES FIRST OF ITS KIND APPS STORE IN TANZANIA

Etisalat has partnered with Smartphone Company EMS to develop a new Mobile Application Store for Blackberry customers. Launching initially in Tanzania where Etisalat operates under the name of Zantel, the move is a first for Sub Saharan Africa.
The Zantel Blackberry App Store will give customers access to a wide range of content including entertainment, games, Instant Messaging, social networking, news, weather and working tools such as word/ calendar etc.
Group Chief Marketing Officer for Etisalat, Mr. Essa Al Haddad, said Zantel was well known in the Tanzanian market for providing innovative products and services.

ZANTEL HOSTS DINNER PARTY FOR MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT IN DODODMA

On Friday evening Zantel hosted a dinner party for Members of Parliament at Bunge premises in Dodoma. This was the first dinner party to be hosted by Zantel and MP'S were impressed with the gesture. Zantel was represented by CTO Moncef Mettiji, Ag. CHRO Hussain Kunju, Ag. Marketing Director Brian Karokola, Government Relations Manager Charles Jutta and Director of Strategy & Business Performance Shinuna Kassim as well at Central Region RSM Kennedy Ndonondo. The dinner event is part of Government Relations initiatives to enlighten the government both in the mainland and Zanzibar about Zantel's role and contribution to the country and telecom industry at large.
The Guest of Honor at the dinner was Deputy Speaker Hon. Job Ndungai who was flanked by Hon. William Lukuvi Minister of State Prime Minister's Office, Hon. Makame Mbarawa Minster of Communication, Science and Technology and Hon. Tindu Lissu representing the Leader of Opposition in Parliament. The Members of Parliament were impressed with our progress especially in data and internet services and many of them purchased modems at the event. Parliament Offices in Dodoma, Dar and Zanzibar were presented with 20 modems and 3 Blackberry phones.

ZANTEL LAUNCHES FREE INTERNET CAFÉ IN MBAGALA

Zantel, the most trusted name in broadband and Internet services in Tanzania today launched a state of the art internet café aptly called ZNET in Mbagala Zakim area in the heart of Dar es Salaam. The internet café, a first and innovative project in to be launched in Tanzania, is part of Zantel’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to offer free computer and internet training to the masses. This initiative will help to address the problem of internet penetration and consequently make internet services available to the entire community where ZNET café are available.
The ZNET project has been made possible after improvement of internet infrastructure and technology through the EASSy cable that has penetrated to more areas in the country and has significantly reduced the cost of internet services.

25 Graduates Confirmed into Professional Profiles
Dar es Salaam, April 06, 2011: Zantel graduate trainees that joined the organization in its First Graduate Program in 2009 were confirmed and received their employment letters in a short ceremony held recently. The aim of the graduate program is to recruit young, talented and ambitious Tanzanians to join the expanding Zantel family at the same time develop their skills in their areas of specialization.
36 graduates out of 200 applicants succeeded in joining Zantel's first graduate program and were attached to the IT, Technical and commercial departments out of which 24 completed the 2 year training, 15 in Technical department and 9 in Commercial Department.

Zantel Set To Increase Data Services Countrywide
Dar es Salaam, March 29, 2011: After dominating with good performance for data & Internet - the Zanzibar Telecoms Limited (ZANTEL) are anticipating improving its data Internet services and increasing access closer to the user in the entire country by the end of May this year.
The leading mobile broadband provider in the country, ZANTEL is set to expand its own network this year on the mainland and Zanzibar. In an interview with Business Times held this week, the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) for ZANTEL, Norman Moyo, said through the Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology, the firm has geared up to extend more Internet towers in the entire country presumably by end of May this year so to improve data and get closer to the users.
"Well, our performance in data and Internet business has been great and through this CDMA platform we have managed to roll-out Internet services countrywide with the exceptions of Singida and Kigoma. Albeit, we will soon be able to cover the whole country in all over major towns," the CCO stated.

ZANTEL FREELANCERS AWARDED
Dar es Salaam, March 01, 2011: Zantel Sales team has awarded its best performing freelancers with bicycles to enable them work more efficiently. A total of 24 freelancers working in Dar es Salaam were presented with brand new bicycles after meeting their targets. Sales department started a 1 month competition among freelancers countrywide in order to build up a competitive spirit so as to bring out the very best out of them and ramp up quality connections.
